Being Physically Active
Part of Dr. Goldner Goodbye Lupus protocol is exercise. Would I say I am physically active? I love being outside whenever I can. Since I live in a pretty place, taking a morning walk is very pleasant. However, it is not always easy. I am almost always in pain, it is just a matter of degree. Some days I cannot get out of bed. Most days I can manage a little gardening.
Like my late mother, I was born very clumsy. I couldn't play team games easily, nor ride a bicycle till I was 11. I could climb trees through strategically thinking where to put my feet, and a lot of my childhood was spent on trees.
When I was in Australia, I learned yoga through library books and my black and white TV. When I went to Canada, I clumsily learned to swim through night classes. In both countries, I walked miles, walking was how I got around
It was somewhat difficult to walk around my old house. I used DVDs to help me exercise. Favourites included Kathy Smith, Cindy Crawford and Jane Fonda.
Parts of 1990 and 2007, I could not walk and there were periods when I was stiff like a statue. Those DVDs helped my rehabilitation as well as others on Tai Chi and QiGong
I try to keep flexible and mobile, being stiff and stuck really scare me. Even on my very painful days I exercise in bed. Being consistent is my weakness, but I am very grateful to the generous YouTubers for providing me a great variety of ways to keep somewhat fit
Listen to Peter Attia discuss the great importance of exercise here with Hugh Jackman https://youtu.be/xcPXEEn . Dr. Attia is an expert on health and longevity. Here is a more serious lecture. It is a difficult lecture, but it was well worth it for me to go over it a few times
Exercise builds bigger and stronger muscles which help in the prevention of injury, and joint damage. Exercise also increases distress tolerance, leading to healing sleep, better glucose management, resulting in greater functionality and extending the health span of an individual.
This is a tweet from Dr. Amen: Physical exercise is the fountain of youth; it's critical to keeping your brain vibrant & young. If you want to attack #Alzheimers disease, #depression, obesity, & aging all at once, move every day.
